Below you will find pictures of the committee and a short bio about each member. This is to give you an idea of who the committee are and how they became involved with Diabetes UK.

Mr Daniel Suggitt – Secretary/Publicity Officer/Webmaster

Description: Dan & Ruby.jpg

I became involved with Diabetes UK – Telford and District Voluntary Group at a young age, when I used to help my grandfather, Terry Suggitt, on Street Collections and also at the shop we used to have once a year in Wellington. When my Grandad was elected Secretary, I became his “Personal Assistant”, as due to his eyesight he was unable to type the committee meeting minutes. I took over as Fundraising Officer when Sid Watkins died in 2008, and have remained on the committee ever since. I took over the role of Secretary and Publicity Officer temporarily in January when Terry passed away and was officially elected at the 2010 AGM.

Away from Diabetes UK, I currently work for the Jobcentre Plus as an Customer Service Agent taking calls from customers who are on Incapacity Benefit. I am 25 this year and still live at home! I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, working on my PC, watching TV, listening to music and various other activities. I am currently trying to lose some weight so attend Slimming World once a week and have lost about 2 and a half stone since I started last July.

If you have any problems with the website or have any matters you want bringing up at the committee meetings, please feel free to contact me. My contact details on the Contact Us page of the website.

Mr John Hargreaves – Fundraising Officer

Description: John

I was unexpectedly transferred to Telford in 1985 from North East Lancashire. The posting allegedly for three years, yet here I am twenty five years later. I was first diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic in 1992 and have been insulin dependent since 1998. I have attended branch meetings since 2002 and was accepted as a committee member in 2008. My concern was the lack of information available to newly diagnosed paitents and to quote a former Prime Minister it is a metter of Education, Education, Education.

A former work colleague recently diagnosed as Type 2, rang me in a state of panic as "know it all" friends had told her that she would go blind and have to face amputations!

I have recently been approached by Diabetes UK to become a media volunteer, a role formerly performed by Terry. I only hope that I can live up to the high standard that he set.

I am also a volunteer guide for the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust and if you visit Blists Hill Victorian Town on a weekend you may stumble across me.
