I was unexpectedly transferred to Telford in 1985 from North East Lancashire. The posting allegedly for three years, yet here I am twenty five years later. I was first diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic in 1992 and have been insulin dependent since 1998. I have attended branch meetings since 2002 and was accepted as a committee member in 2008. My concern was the lack of information available to newly diagnosed paitents and to quote a former Prime Minister it is a metter of Education, Education, Education. A former work colleague recently diagnosed as Type 2, rang me in a state of panic as "know it all" friends had told her that she would go blind and have to face amputations! I have recently been approached by Diabetes UK to become a media volunteer, a role formerly performed by Terry. I only hope that I can live up to the high standard that he set. I
am also a volunteer guide for the Ironbridge Gorge
Museum Trust and if you visit Blists Hill Victorian
Town on a weekend you may stumble across me.
